TITLE:  Tall-Crown Mexican Sombrero
MATERIAL: felt
APPROXIMATE SIZE: 20 inches top of brim ( front to back) and 10 inch tall crown
ESTIMATED AGE: 100 years
CONDITION: fair -- with entrance but no exit bullet hole -- felt is thick and sturdy with little damage --some of decorative cloth shows damage and partially detached -- part of braid is also detached -- no lining -- someone seems to have once glued something such as spangles in the form of a heart to the front and other parts of the crown with remnants of the glue remaining. Most all of the damage is evident in the photos. There is practically no insect damage.
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $850 dollars
SHIPPING: $75 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: This is a very sturdy sombrero de pico that has great potential for recovery with a professional cleaning and minor restoration.  The gold thread designs and cords are in great shape. Most of this is evident if you click the pictures to view the enlargements.

TITLE: Narrow Brim, Tall-Crown Mexican Sombrero
MATERIAL: felt
APPROXIMATE SIZE: 16 inches (front to back) and 8 inch crown
ESTIMATED AGE: 100 years
CONDITION: poor --with entrance and exit bullet holes, dirty, considerable  insect damage, no lining -- but beautiful
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $300 dollars
SHIPPING: $75 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:  I suppose that you absolutely love the sight of this sombrero or hate it.  I simply could not pass it by.  To me, the dirt and wear add to its charm.  It might be the last that we will see of this style offered for sale.

TITLE:  Morión Helmet
MATERIAL: steel
APPROXIMATE SIZE:  14 1/2 inches tip of brim, front to back.  8 1/2 inches wide.  !0 1/2 inches tall.
ESTIMATED AGE:  400 years, give or take 100
CONDITION: very good condition for age.
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $  3,800 dollars
SHIPPING:  $60 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:  I purchased this morion helmet in Santa Fe, New Mexico, from a person that said that it came from a collector's auction.  I assume this pre-1700's helmet was of Germanic origin.  I have no way of knowing if the piece was used by the Spanish in the new world.  I can say that the Spanish did purchase armor from throughout Europe.  It is made from two pieces joined together at the comb and front and back brim. The eight copper rosettes that originally affixed the liner on the inside and served as decorations around and just above the rim are still in place.  The liner is no longer present.  The black paint appears old but there are signs that it has been over-painted along the way.

TITLE:  Copper Canteen
MATERIAL: copper
APPROXIMATE SIZE:  8 inch diameter
ESTIMATED AGE:  75-100  years
CONDITION:  beautifully dented from much use
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $  250 dollars
SHIPPING:  $45 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:    I don't have much information on this canteen.  It is only the second copper canteen that I have ever found.  I discovered it here in Mexico.  The greenish old patina and dented appearance addsto its charm. The drinking spout is a copper fitting that is threaded on the inside.  I do not have the cap.

TITLE:  Tortilla Stamp
MATERIAL: mesquite wood
APPROXIMATE SIZE:  7 inch diameter
ESTIMATED AGE:  200 years
CONDITION: fair
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $  325
SHIPPING:  $34 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:  This item is a rarity.  The custom seldom exists in modern times.  Vegetable dyes were applied to one of the sides of the wooden stamp and tortillas were then imprinted with that design.
One of the sides has what appears to be two kings either in a ceremonial dance or fighting.  There is a bird and three animals.  Christ on the cross is depicted on the other side.

TITLE:  Big Pair Charro Spurs
MATERIAL: iron and silver
APPROXIMATE SIZE:  impressive 7 1/4 inch rowels
ESTIMATED AGE:  100 years
CONDITION: very good condition for age.
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $  3,800 dollars
SHIPPING:  $45 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:  It is a rarity to see such well preserved, large specimens such as this pair.  The original heel strap buttons are intact.  You can see in the enlargement of the second photo that the silver is only applied to the part of the spur that is viewed from the the outside -- which is normally the case.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: This is a frontier manufacture spur that was made in the early colonial Spanish period,  made in Mexico.

TITLE:  Early Spanish colonial single spur #5
MATERIAL:  iron with decorations of a yellow metal
APPROXIMATE SIZE:  7 1/2 inches total length with a 2 1/2 inch rowel
ESTIMATED AGE:  400 years old -- give or take 50 years
CONDITION: very good
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $  700 dollars
SHIPPING:  $34 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: View very closely the beautiful ironwork on this one.  The third image shows the inlay of yellow metal.  I have no easy way to ascertain the metal, but an owner that could afford such great craftsmanship in the ironwork should have been able to pay for gold inlay.  When one finds a great single spur, the immediate thought is I wish I had the mate to complete a pair.  The young lady that sold this spur to my picker knew nothing about spurs and this is one of several that she picked up at her grandfather's ranch.  I have waited about ten years with the hope that the other spur would appear. I of course offered a big price for the picker to bring in the mate to this one.  He finally made contact with the grandfather and they traveled out to the ranch.  Unfortunately they were ambushed and robbed along the way on a lonely road.  They turned back without reaching the ranch.  The grandfather never fully recovered from the fright and died about a month later.

TITLE:  Veleros de Procesión -- Early Spanish Processional Candle Holders (pair)
MATERIAL:  iron
APPROXIMATE SIZE: Not counting the base, 14 inches tall by 7 inches wide
ESTIMATED AGE: 300 years old
CONDITION: very good condition for age.
PRE-AUCTION PRICE: $  850 dollars
SHIPPING:  $60 dollars
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:  This matched pair of processional crosses come from Miralrio, Spain.  They were purchased from a cofradía which was a religious brotherhood. On the bottom of each holder is a socket into which was inserted a a long pole something about the size of a broomstick so that the candle could be carried aloft in the relious processions.  Not permanently affixed within each socket, I have placed a wooden plug secured with silicone.  The wooden plug goes down over a metal pin protruding upward fram the black metal base.  The pair also looks great hanging on the wall -- but I am short of wall space (which is also the reason that I sell so many of the pieces that I would like to keep.)  If you prefer not to have the bases, let me know and I will clean the wood and silicone from the sockets before shipping.  These are unique pieces.
